October Currently

Can you believe it is ALREADY October?  It's also AMAZING that we have been in school for 6 weeks, and this week was the first time I felt like I really had it all together.  We have our groove going, personalities are starting to emerge, and structures/routines are being put to the test!

I'm so excited to be linking up with Farley from Oh' Boy 4th Grade for the October Currently linky party.

Listening:  Many times I need to hear music and listen tentatively at the messages!  LOL!  This week has been one of those weeks for me personally where I listen more than usual.  I'm a member of our church choir, and love to sing.  However, I haven't been able to sing with them since last Wednesday for a variety of reasons.  So, I turn to one of my all-time favorite "choir" groups - The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.  They are amazing, and their songs ALWAYS speak directly to me.  Recently, our church sang "My Help Cometh from the Lord," so I listen to that at least every other day.  Then, my go-to song for struggles is "Through the Fire."  It reminds me that I will experience tough days, and He will be my strength to get through them.  So. True.

Loving:  A dear friend sent me this new book in our school mail, and it was such a wonderful surprise to pick up on my way of school today!  I've already started looking at, and thinking of how it can be used in my classroom.  If you haven't read Wonder by R.J. Palacio, I highly suggest you do so.  It is also a great read aloud for your students.  Today's precept is "It is better to be in the dark with a friend than to be in the light without one."  So. True.

Thinking:  Have you found it hard to NOT think?  I wake up thinking, I go to bed thinking...  I think ALL DAY!  I have a hard time not thinking and just getting out of my head.  It's ridiculous!  Well, right now I'm thinking about everything on my many to do lists.  I have a teacher to do list (that never ends and keeps getting longer), a home list, a curriculum writing list, a to read list, a to bake list, a menu list.  I live by lists, but sometimes the lists become such a burden!  Last weekend, I put the lists down, and just enjoyed some time "off"!!!

Wanting: I just want to read!  Our weather just turned BEAU-TI-FUL today!!!  It is probably about 75 degrees outside, and that is our fall...  It will be back in the 90s next week probably, but it are days like this that I want to read so badly!  Recently, I listened to Book 3 of the 39 Clues: Unstoppable series.  I really enjoy this series and the historical perspectives it gives.  It's meaningless reading, but I can talk about it with my kids.  I have a book open on my Nook that I haven't looked at in months!  Maybe tomorrow night, I will sit outside and read.  Hopefully the weather doesn't change before that!

Needing: So. True.  That is all!

Trick or Treat:  Treat, of course!  I love candy!  I have a great ability to not eat it all of the time, but there are times that I just crave it!  I love chocolate, sugar, salty, etc.  It doesn't matter - I LOVE IT ALL!

Well, that is all!  I did take pictures of a rounding lesson I did this week.  It's on my list to post it to the blog, but I can't guarantee it will happen!  Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. I love the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, also!! Thank you for sharing the song. And, you sold me, I'll be picking up "Wonder", can't wait. Enjoy your weekend.

  2. I keep seeing Wonder pop up everywhere! I'm going to have to check it out!!!

  3. My class just finished Wonder too, and I love the 365 Days too. We use it as our morning message, and my 5th graders have had some great discussions about them.
